Time for tea...........and some renos in the pipeline!

Yesterday I received Stephanie's thank you gift for participating in the Time for Tea swap.........it arrived with a sticker on it saying it had been opened by Australia Post for inspection by Quarantine......there were a couple of leaflets inside explaining the procedure and letting me know that detector dogs and x-ray machines are used to screen items and that this one was opened as it was thought there may have been an item of quarantine concern in it..............it went on to say that nothing had been removed.

I have to say that I am impressed by their diligence......and if it stops something coming into the country which may potentially be harmful then I am all for it! I can only think that on the xray machine it may have looked a little "dodgy" with the pocket on the back "concealing" an unknown little packet!.....

Thank you Stephanie....what a lovely gesture - it was a fun swap to particpate in and there have been some fabulous gifts revealed to date.....Further to the above inspection by quarantine the brand on little tea bag was "Stash Premium"!!

It may be of interest to those sending parcels to Australia to find out about product requirements and import conditions here - might save the disappointment of having items confiscated.
We have lived in our house now for a little over four years......it is an old house and we love it...there are are few maintenance issues that need to be addressed which we are hoping to do soon....but one of the things I have wanted to do since the day we moved in is take up the carpet and have the floorboards polished............the Prince has been putting this off and has been suspicious of things like joins in the carpet between rooms suddenly becoming more obvious....I blame the vacuum for that...LOL.........but on Thursday night of last week this happened..............................
........yes.....those are cuts you see in the carpet......it happened because I organised for a tradesman to come and quote on having the floorbboards polished.....this is what was underneath............

......ok this may not look like much but for me it is a major breakthrough!! Apparently the boards are in good condition and we have decided to get all the rooms downstairs done.....but before we do that there are a few maintenance jobs which need to be addressed......but it's a start!!! I am not a huge fan of carpet and when it is covering up lovely old boards .........well.............it was always going to be on the list of things to be replaced.......the Prince of course is NOT on that list.....!!

I have been doing a little stitching during the week and have been working on the first block of the Breast of Friends quilt from Homespun magazine......my needleturn applique is a little rusty (to say the least!) but I am sure it will improve with practice.....the fabrics I am using are from the Quilters Angel. I have also ordered some of the In the Pink II fabrics (which is the fabric line used in the blocks featured in Homespun) from Hetties Patch.

I hope you are enjoying your weekend and getting some stitching done..........!

'til next time.................Lorraine

My sis's hubby recently tore up their carpets and have great wood floors beneath that they can have refinished. Sadly our house would only have subflooring beneath our carpets and our house has many square feet so such a change is not in our budget at this time. So the carpets will remain. I do like their warmth and we do wear house slippers instead of shoes indoors to help out with cleanliness. Good luck with getting yours re-done, it sounds like a good project.

Cute birdie stitchery. Don't you just love old floors...except when you have to refinish them that is?

Oh my I didn't even think...STASH PREMIUM...I'm imagining quilter's transporting drugs in fabric projects. :o) This would be a new one for customs.

I love old hard wood floors, but what a mes to refinish them. Dust everywhere. But well worth it. I love your first block of BOF. I am thinking of doind it also.

Your floor is going to look fantastic. We had our floorboards sanded/polished a few years ago and it was one of the best thing we've done. It is so worth the couple of days' inconvenience.

Your BOF block is very pretty - love the colours/fabrics.

It is good to know that customs are doing their job!
How exciting if you go ahead with getting your floorboards done. We had our kitchen lino pulled up a couple of years back and had the floorboards sanded and stained and they have come up beautifully. Makes a real difference to the room. When our son bought his house every room had old carpet so we bravely pulled it all up and underneath was jarrah floorboards and fortunately in very good condition. He had them sanded stained and they look great. The kitchen had 7 layers of lino and board to pull up!!!

Oooo a bit scary when you get Quarantine opening your parcels isn't it.... I've had things removed and another parcel totally messed up from it's beautiful presentation.....
I love polished floor boards, can't wait to see your finished project and I love your stitchery. I'm collecting those mags too. Is there another one yet? I'll have to check.... I think I have 1 & 2, 3 & 4.

Hey Lorrain! Love your Breast of Friends block - it's been added to my "To Do" list that I hope to finish before I die - think I'll have to live to be 150!! Ooohh ... your floor boards look like they'll come up a treat! First thing we did when we bought, before moving in, was to rip up the icky carpet and lino and sand and oil the floors - love the look, so warm! Good luck coping with the dust, though!! Bear Hugs! Oh yes, go for it! We have oiled pine floor in most of the room in our house. It is so nice and smooth to walk on, barefeeted! I do so all the year through, yes even in the winter!
Your Breast of friends block look lovely!

Hi Loz, Love you Breast of Friends block ... guess what??!!! I too am collecting to do the quilt I have gotten quite a bit of In the Pink fabric plus a few others bits and pieces as well ... but I love the look of yours .... I have seen a few block around the place done in different fabrics and they all look good. Good luck with the renos ... the floor boards will look fantastic!! We did the same in the kitchen and dine area ... very dusty and inconvenient for a while especially when you dont use a professional (ie 1 very unhandy husband) but it all sorted (kind of) in the end ... looks good to the untrained eye!! Cheers Sue
