Chelsea - a life well lived

Chelsea ......what can I say.......you were a character...you had a strong will and an even stronger sense of smell.......you were able to sniff out food in the strangest places...and not always food that was good for you......chocolate.....the amount you ate should have finished you off many years ago.....you stole food from bags, from barbecues, from the table .....you could be coaxed to do (almost) anything with the promise of food.....it was food which came close to bringing about your demise a few years ago when you ran under a moving vehicle to retrieve a bag you THOUGHT had food in it.....

I said goodbye to you a couple of years ago when you went to live with the ex-Prince and grieved for you then....I missed you in my life but you were happier with him and your happines was the most important thing.  I had to let you go finally this week when old age caught up with you......and even that was like you thumbing your nose at all the other times you should have gone...you lived a long life, outliving all of your siblings, and gave everyone a lot of joy...sometimes some grief when you did things you shouldn't have......but mostly joy.  You never did anything you didn't want to......playing with a ball was passe and under no circumstances would you lower yourself to play fetch with Mark.......he tried......but I remember you staring at the ball with such disdain ......and eventually he would give up and you would take the ball back to your bed and bury it!

You had jaws like a vice and I remember you finding a dead bird in the gutter on a walk through the main street of Angaston.......you picked it up and carried it all the way home..you were not giving up that bird for anything..........eeeeeeeeuuuuwwwwwwwww!

So this post is dedicated to you ......

I won't look ....because you obviously want me too.......

I know you are going out without me....so I'll just stay here......and be happy about it ..NOT!

They will never see me here......

This looks like my new lounge....hurry up and unpack it.....

I could do with a hair cut!....

A hair cut always make one feel better.....

My favourite spot to keep an eye on what's going on outside....

So sorry I didn't get to say a final goodbye.......Sleep well ......you have left many memories of a life well lived....Vale Chelsea.

Oh Loz, how sad. Sounds like Chelsea lived life to the full and definately had her own views on what mattered. She will leave your family with sad hearts but lots of happy & fun memories. Farewell sweet pup Chelsea

As the owner of a cocker myself I could not help crying when I read your beautiful post, so sad for you. I can relate to the chocolate story and many of the other things you write about, they are special dogs. When people say they are dumb they don't know them. Thanks for sharing the beautiful photo's with us. Bye Chelsea!
