It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be..................

It was about a year ago that Mark and Terri decided they were going to the UK for a  year long working holiday....that was ok....it was a whole year away.....and as the plans were made it still seemed a long way in the future...then it was "this year".....then a "few months"...a "few weeks"......and suddenly it was "the day".....I wasn't going to go to the airport.....but I did...and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be...don't get me wrong...it wasn't the easiest thing I have ever done....but seeing them so excited about their adventure made it ok.......and I have skype and FB and email.....when I went to the UK for a year (a very long time ago.....) there was no such technology....and I am sure the year will go fast......

I am not usually in front of the camera but I have a favourite pic of me with Mark that was taken the day before they left......and no I am not standing in a hole LOL

Terri is a very organised young lady and has been placed in charge of travel plans, accommodation etc while Mark has taken on the portfolio of "entertainment"....so here they are checking in......with Mark "supervising".....go Tez!

Packing for a year isn't easy......but the back packs only weighed about 11kgs at check in so they did well......

This is all a kid needs for a year isn't it?? Mark with his carry on bag....which contained the first of the Hunger Games books....and a book of crosswords........I am thinking after the seemingly never ending round of farewells he was involved in over the past few weeks that sleep would have won over reading once he was on the plane.......

A  mum can never have too many photos......

Terri's mum and I wanted a pic of our "babies" as they disappeared into the internationsl departure lounge.......and were "told off" by the security guard for taking them.....see the sign
the kids are standing in front of?  Apparently it meant we couldn't take photos....if I had seen the sign I would have thought you couldn't take cameras/phones etc into the area.....ooops......I am not one to flaut authority.....so have cropped the pic to just include the kids......and apologies to the security guy.....I won't do it again!  promise!

Bon Voyage!  Happy Trails........have a wonderful time..........love you both.... .....see you next year!!

(ok....it was then I did shed a little tear or two.........) .....but I had Rhi and Wade there to give me a hug.......thanks guys!!

'Til next time....................Lorraine

Skype and FB will make all the difference, you will be able to follow their adventures quite easily. Looking at the sign, my first thought was no phones and cameras allowed inside, there should be some text as well.

They look so happy, no wonder it wasn't as bad as you thought. Great to see the beginning of their adventure! And Chooky's right. The year will be gone in no time!

Oh, and I have a photo of my son and daughter-in-law in front of the same sign. Who knew?

What an exciting adventure their going to be on. With technology you it's going to easy to keep in touch. But no matter it's still hard to see them off I'm sure. You've got a very handsome son btw.

Hugs - Karen

Gosh just the thought of it is making me tear up too, but your right, it's not as isolating as it used to be & think of all the great things they will have to report back. Aren't they both so photogenic, beautiful photos especially you & your boy. I hope they have the best time & the time flies for you. Tracee xx

You were very brave Lorraine. What a wonderful time they will have. John and I went overseas 4 days after our wedding and we were away for the best part of a year ... wonderful time.

Sorry for you to be missing Mark and Terri. I know exactly how that feels. Skype helps a lot! Loved seeing the picture of you. You're adorable! I hope you keep busy enough that you don't miss them as much as you think. Blessings.

I'm amazed they managed to get their belongings down to aback pack each. That's pretty impressive.

The year will fly by Loz. And in the meantime there is Skype and the phone and email.

You're lucky you didn't end up in the lock-up...airport security is pretty tough these days.
