Settling back in....

I woke up this morning and for a minute wondered where I was.....oh...that's right....home!  ....wondered what the noise was.....wait ...that was just it...there was no noise....it was "vewy vewy quiet..." ....especially after spending time in some of the world's busiest cities.

I spent most of yesterday unpacking and settling back in to the house....Rose was pleased to see me..and greeted me as if I was just coming home from work then retired to the lounge to sleep....it was like..."oh...your home....good......pardon me if I don't get up!"

A quick check of the luggage (which survived the journey pretty well given the amount of times it was thrown (literally) into baggage holds and out onto airport carousels) and she was happy....there must have been some interesting "smells" on the luggage........

So after unpacking yesterday I did all the washing....well.....all but one thing ..which I did today.....this is an old quilt I bought in the antique mall in Portland...first full day we were away!  ....it is lovely.....and was a bargain at $85.00....I love it!

I have no idea of the age of the quilt...it is in very good condition with just a few wear marks mostly around the edges....it is hand quilted and has very thin batting....maybe cotton?

In another booth in the same mall I found this quilt.....just caught a glimpse of it underneath some other pieces of clothing and fabric.....it is also in quite good condition and some of the blocks are made using a few coloured pieces with the remainder of the block made up in background fabric....the fabric is a quite loosely woven and soft.....again I don't know the age of the quilt and this one was only $65.00! The only thing I had on my list to buy was an older/antique quilt and I had ticked that off on the first day! Twice!

Last Tuesday while I was in LA, Annie came to visit and took me to the J Paul Getty Centre.....as we were leaving she gave me a gift (along with the Oreos for Shay) .......thanks Annie...I love it.......

I thought I had better make a start on the Christmas decorations...I emptied the garage into the house (that's what it seemed like!) and got started.....the enthusiasm waned a bit as the afternoon drew on and I only got the tree done.......I may have stopped for a nanna (jetlag??) nap.......doing the rest of the decorating will give me something to do in the evenings this week....

Over the past few years I have collected bears (and a reindeer) with the year embroidered on their feet...or in the case of the reindeer on his tie! This year the crew has been joined by a Harrods bear......

I hope he doesn't get a hard time for being the newbie from the rest of the gang he is still recovering from being squished into the suitcase in a compression bag...oh the indignity!

It's good to be home and settled.........back to work tomorrow.....there have been a few changes while I have been away.....I will feel like the newbie!  :)  I am sure by about lunchtime I will be back into the swing of things and it will seem like I was never away......but I have the memories and a million photos to remind me that I was!

'Til next time...................Lorraine

PS: Shay the Oreos are calling your name.........

Oh my goodness Loz – those quilts are stunning. (and the prices you paid are incredible!)

Poor bear – being suffocated in a plastic bag all the way from the US to Australia . I should report you to whoever looks after the welfare of bears ( Does Yogi Bear have a phone number?)

I hope you survive the first day back at work . It’s lovely to have you home and not just because you’re holding my Oreo’s for safe keeping !

Glad your back home in one piece and on speaking terms with Rose. It was great following along with what you were up to while away. Hope work is not too hard tomorrow.

The quilts are gorgeous, Lorraine! Looks like they withstood their baths just fine. I think you are over industrious with the decorating already--you've exhausted Rose even :) Thanks for sharing all your travels with us--and I think Mr. Bear will get along just fine with his new crowd!

Welcome home. I must say, your luggage looks brand new still, not at all like it has been around the world. Those quilts are an amazing find.
I really like your Christmas tree and the teddies, the reindeer in particular.
