Busy (and very fun) weekend with Judy Newman..and a baby shower!

Last year Judy Newman and I found ourselves in London visiting our respective daughters and  with time on our hands during the day we enjoyed visiting some of London's landmarks and the odd patchwork shop and castle......Judy was teaching a class at Tikki Patchwork and I had enrolled in the class before I left Australia so we ventured out to Kew for the class.......had a fantastic day and started on the Emma Mary quilt.....got very enthused and made a good dent in the centre panel of the quilt.....and that's about how it stayed until this weekend when Judy taught at Hetties Patch (more pics from the class on their website).....

.....and luckily we weren't late for class......

Judy is a fabulous teacher and soon had everyone busy on their respective projects for the weekend......she looks meek and mild doesn't she, but she keeps everyone motivated! :)

Choosing fabrics is a real skill, and Judy certainly has an eye for colour and what will work in a quilt.....and my credit car can attest to how good she is!

Here's where I was up to after the London class.....

I had pretty much stalled on the project because I didn't know where to go with colours......the crowns were an experiment, and they came off to make way for .....wait for it....yellow......wasn't sure at first, but once the yellow hexis were on and the crowns were added as the final round I was happy.......

I also made a start on the surrounding borders - a few stars to make along with a load of scrappy hexis and then the blocks which form the rest of the quilt....this was the first of many of those.......how could you go past that super cute dog!  Lots of these to make but as they are hand pieced I can work on them in the evenings.....

the class wasn't the only fun thing on the weekend.......Saturday afternoon I took some leave from stitching and went to Terri's baby shower.....I was up super early that morning to make scones.....although I didn't think they were the best batch I have ever made they disappeared fast.......

Terri is looking fabulous - baby is due in about a month...give or take a day or two!  It was fun to catch up with Rhiannon as well and the afternoon flew by.

Afterwards it was back to pick up Judy from the classroom and wander home for a quiet night stitching!  All in all a fabulous weekend....thanks to Hetties Patch for bringing Judy over......always great to visit this amazing shop!!  Looking forward to September when Judy will be back .....which means I am on a mission to keep working on the quilt!

'til next time................Lorraine

I had never heard of this quilt, but have just spent the weekend pondering it with Lea! I like what you've done. So good to have an expert help with those colours. Glad the shower went off well, not long now.

What a lovely weekend you had Loz. Having tried and tested your scones I am sure they were a great hit. Your quilt is progressing nicely.

How exciting to have a baby coming soon, Terri certainly looks wonderful. What a lovely time this is, before the baby turns the household on it's head!
