FOMO and other things........warning a bit wordy and pic heavy

I really had to think hard about this post....it's been so long I had almost forgotten how to!  It seems just a little while since Judy was here, but I see it's a month already!  Since then she has been busy working - teaching here there and well.....everywhere!  I on the other hand have been staying put and working - my "head in the sand" form of accounting didn't seem to be working for me and if I want to retire in the next few years I need to put some sort of savings plan into action...she says laughing maniacally - "savings plan" and "action" don't seem like words which should/could  be in the same sentence.....but I should give it a crack!

This time last year I was preparing to fly off to the UK and since I do want to travel again before I retire, there is incentive for me to save!  I repeat...there is incentive to save.......must.keep.telling.myself.that!!  On the other hand (like the little devil sitting on my shoulder) there is  FOMO......yes folks, Fear Of Missing Out....missing out on the latest fabric ranges, patterns, notions, retreats, shop-hops, conventions....the list is endless and is fuelled by IG, FB and blogs...and the offer of instant gratification with PDF pattern downloads....you can spend hours on screen - and if you can't sleep you can shop 24/7 on line.....resistance would seem futile, but I have been ....resisting that is, telling myself there will be other fabric ranges, patterns etc.....and the lure of travel (and being able to afford to eat when I retire) is keeping me on the straight and narrow. Not to say I am going to be all work and no play  buy in the future though.....I think moderation should have been my word for 2016...perhaps it still can be.

Speaking of 2016...how fast is it going?  Here we are on the verge of April already!  .....and that grand baby isn't too far away now!  all being well he/she should be here by the end of the week!

So I have been on leave from work for a couple of weeks - recharging the batteries which I must say were a little flat....lots of sleep and hanging out in the sewing room has worked wonders....I think more sleep than sewing has happened, but that's ok.......

The weather has changed and the mornings and evenings are deliciously cool with Autumn arriving at last.....

the Manchurian Pear trees in my front garden.....

 ...and look....tiny little pears even!

What else has been happening......a little bit of "baby" sewing....a Nappy Wallet from Two Pretty Poppets - some really cute patterns on this site......

...and a couple of bibs....there may have been more of these which have already been gifted......this is a super pattern from Amy at NanaCompany

A mini hexi bag from Hettie's Patch....called (surprisingly) Hettie's Mini Hexagon Bag....

Also...perfect for a bunny carry-bag!  .....and yes, Easter has come and gone for another year....just like the chocolates featured in this pic!!

a bit of playing around with the layout for the next border of Emma Mary ...all of the hexis are made for this and I am on to making the eleventy hundred blocks for the rest of the top....they are coming along nicely.....and I am quite enjoying the hand piecing.....the cooler weather is perfect for it !

There may have been more pear sewing.....this Liberty lovely has been shipped off to its new home........

had a stitching day with the girls - Lynette has made this cute Happy Hedgehogs quilt from Melly&Me

Complete with toy hedgehog in the making......

A bit of secret stitching happened - can't post pics until after opening day on 8 April.....so will leave you with this pic of Rose taking it easy (this was a really hot day and she chose a spot in front of the fan!)

.....oh and this pic of moon rise on Saturday night.....

Best wishes for Terri and Mark and also you Granny Loz. It must be an exciting but impatient experience waiting for that phone call. I'll look forward to reading the good news. Love the bibs you have made, and the little wallet, they will be well used I am sure.

OMG how busy have you been Loz. How exciting baby countdown. Can't wait to hearing when it all happens. Gosh organising for your retirement. It must be a thing of the moment. We have been having discussions also here at home and I am being more restrained when contemplating purchasing items I think I definitely need. I've been pretty good actually. I keep saying " clear what you've got, clear what you've got!! Wonder how long it will last, lol

Exciting, hope all goes well with the new arrival. I totally understand what you're saying, not terribly exciting to rabbit on about the same slow project, far more interesting to buy and start something new.......but it's hard to keep up. I for one don't mind seeing the same project in its different phases, happy just to see progress being made b y anyone. I expect sewing may take a back seat for a while when the new love of your life arrives!

Great bibs and just adore the mini hexi's, lovely little bag. I have to say April must be the month this year for first grandbabies, as I have a friend also eagerly awaiting arrival of hers. Glad you have had a break to recharge the batteries before you are on Nana standby!
