When making a quilt that requires filler blocks .....do them as you go....don't leave them to do all at once!........This week I have spent three days in the sewing room...ok...I came out for toilet breaks and to eat occasionally......but for the rest of the time......sewing! Loved it! The CW quilt isn't quite ready for it's blog debut yet....but here are a few of the little pinwheel fillers ready to stitch......
Three catch up blocks for the Civil War BOW......check
Christmas Wecome wall hanging finished......check
Fabrics chosen for the Tis the Season StitchAlong....... blocks traced...and one complete....check
I was stitching away last night then realised it was 2am! Yikes! and this morning I was up early - I had to go shopping........I got these.........
....you thought they were shoes ......but no........that box is now my storage container for these........
see.....I told you in an earlier post I was a gardener .......and my skills now include watering system repair restoration. I can reduce from 19mm to 13mm and put in shrublers with the best of them....thanks to some instruction from my sister.......and the best bit.......when we turned on the tap it all worked......!! How very satisfying! I impressed myself .....LOL (I am easily impressed)
Since Rose destroyed modified the watering system I have been hand watering....can be relaxing....but mostly just something else that had to be done when I got home from work (or before work).......so now it works as it was intended....one tap.....a timer ....and the back garden, front garden and lawn are all watered - too easy! (A temporary fence has been put up across the back garden to discourage Rose from any more modifications to watering systems OR plants!)
Had to call a plumber in yesterday morning....seemed like there was a blocked drain.......wasn't looking forward to a plumber's bill....but it wasn't something I could ignore....he came.....wandered over and pulled the top off a couple of IPs....."hmmmmmmmm"....."oh"........and more "hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm"...I think it was plumber speak for "holy crap" and I could see dollar signs......! He then went out to the footpath and took the lid off the IP out there..... "hmmmmmmmmmm - it's blocked"...REALLY????? the good news was he said it was blocked "on Council's side".....which meant they would come and fix it....yay.....not my blockage to deal with! So a quick phone call to the Council (love my Council) and a bit later they turned up - apparently the whole line was blocked which would have affected more than just my house....but no one else had called.....? Not to worry it was fixed...speedily and with good humour from the Council guys......and didn't cost a fortune!
So that has been my week....it's been very productive...and I have enjoyed it (a lot)....checked today to see that Jazz is still in the garage where I left her on Monday.......thought she may have felt abandoned and gone out on her own!
Gratitudes:
drains that are blocked "on Council's side"
long days in the sewing room
watering systems that work (yay)
'Til next time.................Lorraine

Wow, love those CW blocks, especially the fussy cutting in the centre piece. You have achieved so much. Maybe that is the secret, keeping the car in the shed, I'll see if I can try it.
It's great when you can get lost in your sewing like that, I like your colours for CW BOW, and you have already finished a block for the SAL, you've been going full steam. Can't say I'm a fan of hand watering especially at the end of a long day, you've done the right thing repairing it, will save you a lot of time.
An enjoyable read today. I, too, can get caught up in my sewing and be in the sewing room until the wee hours. Just having so much fun that I don't want to give up.
This post is so full of pretty things! I love your SAL fabrics. Very pretty! Sounds like an excellent week! Wish I was there!
you ahve been a busy girl.............glad you mastered the watering system...........one tap could never do in my garden...........
We had similar drain blockage a couple of years ago. I was thinking how many $$$$ it was going to cost, the toilet was backing up and we managed to get a local plumber drop by on the way home and said to try E&WS first as he thought it was the street drain causing the problem they were out within a couple of hours and we haven't had a problem since. Love the blocks CW quilt will look fantastic.
Love all your Blocks..You have accomplished so much these holidays...
Enjoy the rest..
cheers
Having seen those Christmas blocks on every second blog Ive visited in the last week, (so darn cute!) I finally gave in and bought the book last night. I am determined mine will be as lovely as yours.
The CW blocks look GORGEOUS!
(as you can see I am not away as planned - too much house stuff to do -however Im going with my alternate plan to mirror your sewing frenzy and get a couple of big projects knocked off instead. Assuming I can drag myself away from the computer...
Love your posts, your humour always makes me smile. Great news about the plumbing problem. As always your quilting is just beautiful.
Naughty Rose! I'm sure she was just trying to get your attention cause you were hiding in the sewing room! ;) Good to see all the new sewing you've been doing too! You're up to date with the SAL? OH NO! You're beating me! ;) I haven't started.
LOVE your TIS fabrics - it's going to be beautiful. Great stroke of luck with the blockage (if there can be luck with a blockage). The CW blocks are looking wonderful too.
Your talents are endless. I have a dripping pipe in the 2nd bathroom do you think the plumber in the house would fix it. When I mention it he says I couldn't afford his out of hour rates!!!!!!!!
That Civil War is looking good ...will it be ready for some show & tell by April 2nd ????...
I've had 2 finishes this week too so we are all on a roll
It's nice when it's someone else's money paying the bill! I would like a small watering system like you have installed. Good luck with the yard!
I am so glad you got some quality quilting time!! Wonderful pinwheels...and stitchery...and wall hangings!! I am really glad about the blockage being on the Council side too...I can just see those $ signs chugging out of the plumber's ears!!
My word you have been busy! Love your wall hanging....Very nice indeed. Unfortunately my sewing was stiffled on the weekend as Russell was away and I was on solitary milking duty......not fun at all :( Linda :)
I like the common colors you're using in your CW blocks. They'll look great together and will make a cohesive quilt. (Thinking of abandoning mine--I'm all over the place with my colors, and I'm not dedicated to the project.)
Glad to read that the watering problems are fixed. Stay away, Rosie!
