Happy Days......

It's the weekend!!

This week bought some excellent mail...Clare's swap gifties and a couple of things I bought in the US while I was there......they have had a bit of a convoluted trip here so I was happy to see them when they got here.......

The best thing (for me anyway) about the Houston Quilt Festival was the abundance of old/antique quilts.....I spent hours browsing in the booths ....looking and wondering about the history of the many and varied quilts there.....I have always admired the Pickledish pattern but would probably never make one...so when I found this beauty, hand pieced and hand quilted ....well.....you know it.....I couldn't resist!....

This star quilt also won me over .......it was made c1916 and came with some details of the quilter and who it was made for...unfortunately (well fortunately for me) the remaining members of the family had no interest in it so it was sold to a dealer.......and now has a  home with me...it's in good condition and has very thin batting so is perfect for a "summer" quilt for the bed.......again it is hand pieced and hand quilted.......

I love these quilts and if the Grand Canyon and London were the highlights of the places visited then these are definitely the highlights of things purchased.....happy birthday and merry christmas to me!  :)

More baking to be done this weekend......have been a bit tardy with getting gifts organised this year.....but still have a couple of weekends before Christmas.  Hope your Christmas preparations are  going to plan!  I am looking forward to some stitching time over the break.

'Til next time...................Lorraine

Gorgeous! I love that you are using the star quilt on your bed. Things that carefully and beautifully made deserve to be used and loved! Pink Pickledish is also a star in her own right :)

Oh I so love your new quilts. It must have been total bliss to be sorting through so many of them, and making the decision on which ones to purchase. And they have arrived just in time for your birthday and Christmas. Happy birthday indeed.

Gorgous quilts, thanks for sharing. So nice to have a quilt in a pattern you love, but will never make..not to mention hand quilted! And now the weather has cooled off a tad a quilt on the bed and baking is possible! So glad I dont live in then 1800's without my sewing machine or air con!

Hand pieced and hand quilted! My goodness, imagine the hours of stitching. I didn't know there was a pattern called Pickle Dish, I like the sound of that and I love the quilt.
You've made me decide to buy a quilt I saw in a shop a couple of years ago, I couldn't afford it then and can afford it even less now, but I want it on my couch.
