the attention span of a gnat....

Cardy recently referred to her short attention span in the context of a goldfish in a bowl.....I find it increasingly difficult to stay "on task" - I could call it multi tasking, but really I am just faffing about from one thing to another without achieving much at all.....I am not sure who has measured the attention span of a gnat, but I will go with it and say I am afflicted......

Case in point.......(bear with me here...) I start out to put some books recently received in the mail in the sewing room where they belong...the books are on the coffee table next to my chair in the lounge room because I was looking at them the night before while watching TV (see multitasking).....also on the coffee table is the TV remote and a shopping list.....need to add some things to the shopping list so sit down, turn on the TV (why???) and starting adding things to the list....the phone rings....short conversation with a friend who is dropping by to pick up a magazine....need to find the magazine.....which is in the bedroom on the bedside table.....while in the bedroom I make the bed and hang up some clothes in the walk in robe.....start looking at clothes that no longer fit and decide I need to throw some of them out......knock at the door......friend is here to pick up magazine....we decide to go out for lunch.......I get home two hours later - lunch turned into a visit to the shops for groceries but I didn't have my list so forgot half the things I needed......see what I mean.....and the books are still on the coffee table.....but I did turn off the TV before I went out!

The same thing happens in my sewing room - I get so easily distracted while I am in there - lots of projects going on (and lots in my head that I want to be going on.....) I received a pattern in the mail a couple of weeks ago and wanted to start it straight away......yikes, didn't have a couple of things I needed for it, so ordered on line and put the pattern on the desk in the sewing room......the bits I needed arrived in the post and have joined the pattern ...to be made another day. But I do enjoy playing in the sewing room, and that's what I have been doing most of today......

Not that I need to start something new, but I have!  I joined Brigitte Giblin's Trip Around the World challenge on FB and got a couple of rounds stitched last night.....my biggest problem is choosing fabric - it takes me ages and I change my mind a lot!  But I have made a start and will continue with it to see where it takes me......it's about pot holder size now and could even reach table topper size.....!  the sky is the limit, well maybe not the sky, but you know what I mean........here is my effort to date........I have the next few rounds cut out ready to go......that's if I don't change my mind!

I also did some prep for the next block of Gossip in the Garden ready to stitch....

Also prepped are a couple of stitcheries from this book.......Gail has outdone herself with this one.....Love it!!!  It arrived in the post during the week so that made for some happy mail!

Also on books, but a different subject.....I came across this gem in a box of Dad's things.....it lists his father's birthdate along with all his siblings handwritten on the front and back covers....I love the inscription here "best wishes for your eternal welfare" ....can't get much better than that!

I struggle with reading this fine text with glasses.......perhaps this generation had better eyesight.......

It lives on my dining hutch and I love it.......

I went for a drive earlier today and will leave you with a couple of pics .....winter is upon us but it certainly isn't drab.......

'Til next time..................Lorraine

Love this post, my scatty friend! I am a great procrastinator disguised as easily distracted! Decisions about fabric are always the hardest, but your TAW block is looking great! Love the gorgeous countryside, and I am glad you had a nice lunch out!

Yes, but a gnat with lovely taste in projects! Better to be busy and easily distracted than not doing anything. The countryside looks beautiful, did you have that field plough end that way especially?

.....ploughed

I do the same thing you do -- and I call it fragmenting . . .

I have the same malady Loz. Cant stick to anything for longer than about 20 minutes unless it involves laying on the lounge with my Ipad in my hand...

Im loving the scrappy trip – I keep wanting to make one of those and putting it off...see – I really cant hold a thought !

Sounds like you had a lovely and restful weekend and isnt that what weekends are meant to be like?

Dont know about your take on the weather – Im frozen half the time ...yes it’s pretty with everything green but I vote for it to be a warm winter!

Yes my dear I think we all have to admit to being a bit "vague" at times, at this stage I am blaming lack of sleep, then it will be "old age". In fact having kids was my perfect excuse for being vague - it was tougher when I was single to have a good excuse! I get from one end of the house to the other and forget what I was going to do! I love winter, nothing better then foggy mornings, a roaring fire, rain on the roof and green, green paddocks!
