Happy Australia Day!

I hope everyone has a great Australia Day! I will be working at the breakfast which Council holds for the residents of our area. I organise the event so I am hoping that I haven't forgotten some major component of the event!.......the band????......yep got the band.......!
I was at the venue this afternoon setting up the lectern for the Mayor's speech.....and putting up a few flags on the stage area.......the local Scouts were setting up the tables and chairs and when I left the area looked like this:

........and from another angle....................

I know that when I get there tomorrow I will have to take the scissors to the uneven ends of the table covers!! The tables still have to have the red, white and blue serviettes and some other decorations but this is pretty much how it will look from my area on the stage tomorrow morning........and this is where I will sit.......not in all those chairs of course...they are for the band.......
Yep...that's my little table where I will have the awards and citizenship certificates for the formal part of the morning's event.............I will get there early to make sure everything is in order......and cut the ends off the table "cloths".......can you still call them table "cloths" when they are paper????
It was hot in the venue this afternoon.....and with the weather forecast for a high in the mid thirties tomorrow it will be very warm by the time the event is over. The Prince and I will then pack up and come home - stopping for a leisurly brunch on the way....I am always too nervous/busy to eat breafast at the event.
Wishing everyone a happy Australia Day..................'til next time................Lorraine

All that hard work... wow!! Hope that you have a wonderful day! We were supposed to be celebrating Australia Day with friends... but... with the two and a half inches of rain we had Thursday and then another 3 or 4 inches yesterday (freak sideways raining storm!).... we unfortunatel are rained in. We couldn't get out even if we wanted to. So it'll be a quiet one for us instead!! Hope yours is a great one!

Hi Lorraine, Great work with all that setting up. Did you use pinking shears or scrapbook scissors to cut the tablecloths?!!
At Loxton the council also puts on a bacon and egg bbq breakfast for anyone who wants to come. It is held in the big lawned area in the main street under large shady trees. People bright their own chairs. Hope you had fun!

I hope you had a good Happy Australia Day. Please explain the signifigance of the holiday. I had not heard of it before. Guess it's obvious that I am not an Australian.
I have also wondered why we call paper table covers table cloths. It looks like you were tackling a big job.
